About this role
The Airport Operations & Maintenance Specialist ensures the safety, security, and maintenance of airport grounds, equipment, buildings, and facilities. The role provides oversight and direction to other staff as needed and responds to Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) situations. Employees are cross-trained to perform all Fixed Base Operator (FBO) services as backup to FBO staff.
Daily responsibilities include performing inspections of equipment, facilities, and the airport environment to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Staff verify documentation of inspections, training, and maintenance activities while maintaining inventory of products, tools, and equipment. Repairs cover runways, taxiways, hangars, buildings, roads, grounds, vehicles, and access controls.
The position involves working independently and in teams within a 24-hour operation, providing excellent customer service to pilots, passengers, tenants, and the general public. Conditions include exposure to inclement weather, heavy equipment operation, dirt, dust, noise, fumes, and hazards like airport traffic and ARFF responses. Varying shifts such as 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. ensure continuous coverage.
All duties must comply with federal, city, and airport policies while ensuring cleanliness of airport-owned buildings. Employees must be available for call-outs for aircraft servicing and property maintenance. Additional work-related duties are assigned by the Airport Director or designee.
Requirements
- Ability to perform all essential duties of FBO Services Agent/Airport Operations Agent
- Capability to respond to Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) situations
- Physical ability for repeated standing, sitting, climbing, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, crawling
- Unaided lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds daily, with occasional heavier lifting
- Availability for varying shifts including early mornings, evenings, nights, and call-outs
- Tolerance for exposure to inclement weather, dirt, dust, noise, fumes, hazards, and 24-hour operations
- Ability to work independently and in teams in physically demanding conditions
Responsibilities

- Perform daily, weekly, monthly inspections of equipment, facilities, and airport environment to maintain compliance
- Verify documentation of required inspections, training, and maintenance activities

- Repair and maintain runway and taxiway environments, hangars, buildings, roads, grounds, equipment, vehicles, and access controls
- Ensure cleanliness of all airport-owned buildings as necessary
- Provide oversight and direction of other staff as needed
- Perform all duties while providing excellent customer service and in compliance with regulations
