The City of Dallas offers careers with purpose. Under general supervision, the Airfield Maintenance Technician I is responsible for day-to-day operations and duties associated with the safety, operations, maintenance, and security of a municipal airport.

This role performs both semi-skilled and skilled labor in the Aircraft Operations Area (AOA) of all City of Dallas owned and operated airports. Duties include pavement repair and markings, security fencing, airfield grass and weed control, snow and ice removal, and other grounds maintenance.

The technician performs daily safety, security and operational inspections of runways, taxiways, perimeter fences and gates for compliance with FAA, TSA, and local regulations. Heavy emphasis is placed on responding to and taking appropriate action on issues as they arise to maintain operational functionality.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an airport security identification badge (SIDA).
  • Knowledge of FAA Part 139 airfield safety standards and regulations.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment such as tractors, mowers, and snow removal vehicles.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and respond to emergencies.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor, lift heavy objects, and stand or walk for extended periods.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining the airport in compliance with FAA regulations, TSA rules for airfield security, City codified ordinances, and environmental regulations.
  • Perform both semi-skilled and skilled labor in the Aircraft Operations Area, including pavement repair and markings, security fencing, grass and weed control, snow and ice removal.
  • Perform daily safety, security and operational inspections of runways, taxiways, perimeter fences and gates for compliance with Federal, State, and local rules.
  • Operate tractors, riding mowers, weed cutting tools, and chemical broadcast systems for vegetation control.
  • Operate Runway Broom, deicing spray applicator, sand spreading trucks, dry chemical deice spreaders, loaders, and conveyor systems to keep runways and taxiways open.
  • Respond to and provide assistance during aircraft emergencies, facility equipment failures, airfield lighting failures, pavement failures, and hazardous incidents.
  • Maintain work records, maintenance and repair logs, vehicle inspection forms, FAA inspection records, and other documentation.
  • Respond as dispatched by Airport Police to remove vehicles from the terminal area that violate TSA regulations.
