The Airport Operations Specialist ensures compliance with FAA rules and Texas State Technical College policies to maintain safe and efficient airport operations. This role involves monitoring airport communication systems, responding to emergency situations, and assessing airfield conditions.

Day-to-day responsibilities include inspecting the airfield and surrounding areas for compliance, monitoring weather conditions and runway temperatures, and documenting airfield conditions. The specialist also addresses tenant concerns, monitors wildlife activity for potential conflict with airfield activities, and takes appropriate actions for wildlife disposal.

Working under general supervision, the specialist has the freedom to develop work sequences within established procedures. This role involves interacting with co-workers, tenants, contractors, TSTC employees, and the public, providing guidance and interpretation of policies and procedures.

This position offers the opportunity to apply principles of rational systems and exercise independent judgment to meet assigned objectives. The specialist will encounter adverse weather conditions and physical demands related to airfield maintenance, making it a dynamic and essential role within the airport operations team.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 3-5 years’ experience in airport operations, aviation, or related fields is preferred
  • Ability to perform mid-level analysis and deduce conclusions, assess situations, and develop alternatives
  • Ability to provide guidance, assistance, and interpretation of policies and procedures to co-workers, tenants, contractors, TSTC employees, and the public
  • Proficiency in operating various equipment, machinery, and tools, such as a two-way radio, motor vehicle, computer terminal, calculator, and materials used in essential functions
  • Proficiency in understanding and utilizing advisory data and information related to airport operations and regulations
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Willingness to work under adverse weather conditions, noise, and traffic hazards

Responsibilities

  • Monitor airport communication system and respond to emergency situations, collecting and analyzing relevant data and communicating it to management
  • Inspect airfield and surrounding areas for compliance with FAA rules and airport policies and regulations, including assessing runway conditions and monitoring weather conditions and runway temperatures
  • Respond to and resolve tenant concerns, conflicts, complaints, and requests, or escalate them to the appropriate personnel or agency
  • Document airfield conditions and provide advisory support to management regarding potential problems and public relations issues
  • Monitor wildlife activity for potential conflict with airfield activities and take appropriate actions for wildlife disposal
  • Notify management to resolve more complex emergencies and incidents as needed
  • Escort contractors and other personnel without access to the airport communication system on the airfield
