Under the general direction of the Airport Operations Manager-Airfield, this role ensures the day-to-day safe, secure, convenient, and efficient operations of airfield functions at all airports. Incumbents provide a full scope of services including safety and security inspections, emergency response, snow removal coordination, wildlife management, and construction safety. The position monitors airfield access and enforces FAA FAR 139 and TSA TSR 1542 regulations to maintain airfield integrity.

As an Airfield Operations Specialist, you conduct safety and security inspections, respond to medical emergencies, and manage airfield incidents. Responsibilities include coordinating snow removal, wildlife control, and construction activities while providing high-profile customer service. The role demands expertise in emergency response, inspections, and regulatory compliance.

This is skilled professional work requiring broad experience in airport operations, aircraft operating area issues, and FAA rules. Duties involve problem-solving, general aviation knowledge, and coordination with airline maintenance during emergencies. You maintain proficiency in CPR techniques and AED operation.

Work in a union-covered position with the Salt Lake City Department of Airports, focusing on airfield integrity amid varying conditions like extreme weather. Coordinate ramp and taxiway closures for maintenance and ensure smooth aircraft flow. The position offers full city benefits and remains open until April 4th.

Requirements

  • Broad range of experience with airport operations and aircraft operating area issues
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration rules and regulations including FAR 139
  • Familiarity with Transportation Security Administration TSR 1542 regulations
  • Experience in general aviation operations
  • High level of problem solving skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Current proficiency in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation techniques
  • Proficiency in operation of Automatic Electronic Defibrillators (AEDs)

Responsibilities

  • Serve as first responder to aircraft and structural emergencies and all medical incidents on the airfield
  • Perform airfield inspections to ensure compliance with FAA guidelines and regulations
  • Monitor airfield areas for deteriorating conditions and initiate work requests to resolve safety issues
  • Coordinate and manage ramp and taxiway closures for maintenance, snow removal, and construction activities
  • Respond to and document medical emergencies, airfield and aircraft incidents
  • Conduct snow removal assessment and coordination, wildlife management and control
  • Escort aircraft towing operations and ambulances to ramp locations as needed
  • Enforce FAA FAR 139 and TSA TSR 1542 regulations while monitoring airfield access
