Provo City is seeking an Airport Operations Specialist to assist in directing airside operations while maintaining the airport's operating certificate. The role coordinates airport security systems and facilities to support safe and compliant services for the community. Daily work includes inspecting the airfield for compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations Part 139 and closely monitoring all areas for safety and security issues. Specialists ensure the safe flow of aircraft, maintain authorized access through ID monitoring, and complete required paperwork and training. They also respond to inquiries, requests, and complaints as they arise.

The position requires ensuring TSR 1542 compliance and keeping all airport electrical systems, radio equipment, access gates, and other facilities fully operational around the clock. Routine patrols address operational concerns and verify adherence to federal, state, and local regulations. This creates a structured environment centered on continuous regulatory and safety oversight.

Opportunities exist to obtain an Airport Security Coordinator certificate along with Airport Inspector and Wildlife Hazard Management training within the first month. FAA-accredited ARFF certification is also available during employment for those advancing through the I-III levels.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Valid, lawful Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Department of Homeland Security background check clearance.
  • Must obtain and hold an Airport SIDA Badge.
  • Airport Security Coordinator certificate and Airport Inspector training required within one month of hire.
  • 1 year of progressively responsible maintenance and heavy equipment experience for level I.
  • 2 years of related experience at a Part 139 certificated airport for level II.
  • FAA-accredited Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) certification to be obtained during employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with airfield inspections to comply with Federal Aviation Regulations including 14 CFR Part 139.
  • Closely monitor all airfield areas to ensure safe and smooth flow of aircraft.
  • Complete required paperwork, communication, and training to maintain FAA airport certifications.
  • Ensure TSR 1542 compliance and maintain authorized airfield access via ID/media monitoring.
  • Monitor, inspect, and patrol all airport areas for safety, operational, and security issues.
  • Ensure airport electrical systems, radio equipment, access gates, and other facilities remain fully operational 24/7.
  • Respond to inquiries, requests, and complaints while performing related duties as required.
