About this role

The Crew Chief Ramp Service Agent leads and directs Fleet Service employees on assigned crews for American Airlines. This role covers ramp operations at Chicago airports with responsibility for overall crew performance and timely work completion.

Daily duties include guiding aircraft using wands, loading baggage and cargo, driving ramp equipment, and servicing aircraft with ground power and air conditioning. The position also requires towing aircraft, servicing lavatories and water ports, and cleaning aircraft interiors when needed.

Work takes place outdoors with exposure to extreme weather, engine noise, and fumes while following DOT, FAA, and TSA regulations. Crew Chiefs complete required paperwork, conduct training, and ensure all safety procedures and company policies are followed at all times.

The role is covered by the IAM and TWU Collective Bargaining Agreement. Employees must report on time for varying shifts, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime at their assigned station.

Requirements

  • Report to position on time including mandatory overtime, varying shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Work outdoors with exposure to extreme weather, engine noise, and noxious fumes
  • Adhere to government regulations including DOT, FAA, and TSA
  • Perform all functions in accordance with safety procedures and policies
  • Complete job-relevant trainings and follow company policies and performance standards

Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct the work of Fleet Service employees on assigned crew
  • Complete paperwork and reports in connection with normally assigned duties
  • Conduct classroom and on-the-job training and operational meetings
  • Ensure timely and satisfactory completion of all work assignments
  • Guide aircraft by standing and holding wands at or above shoulder height
  • Load baggage and cargo into aircraft cargo compartments
  • Drive and operate all ramp equipment and tow or pushback aircraft
  • Service aircraft lavatories, water ports, ground power, and air conditioning
