About this role
Optime Group seeks an experienced Baggage Handler/Ramp Agent to join a client at Gatwick Airport. The role offers full-time hours on a 4 on 2 off shift pattern with overtime opportunities. Applicants must hold a full valid UK driving licence.
Ramp agents process customers' luggage by loading it into aircraft for departure and unloading on arrival, ensuring proper weight and balance. They work both airside and within the Undercroft baggage unit. This manual role requires physical fitness to repetitively lift up to 30kg, with downtime between flights.
Operate in adverse weather conditions like rain, snow, or extreme temperatures while collaborating with ramp agents, ground handling staff, and airline personnel for efficient operations and timely aircraft turnaround. The airport runs 7 days per week on a rolling rota. Shifts are 9 hours between 04:30AM and 23:00PM.
This multi-skilled position allows upskilling on mobile stair units, belt loaders, buggies, and tug vehicles. Full training is provided over 5 days of classroom-based sessions and shadowing. Full PPE is supplied, with temp to perm progression based on performance.
Requirements
- Full UK manual driving licence (mandatory)
- Good attention to detail
- Good verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and use initiative, while being part of a team
- Right to Work in the UK
- Five year fully checkable reference history
- Ability to pass Criminal Record Check (CRC)
Responsibilities
- Process customers' luggage, load into aircraft for departure and unload on arrival, ensuring proper weight and balance

- Operate vehicles and machinery including mobile stair units, belt loaders, buggies, and tug vehicles

- Collaborate with ramp agents, ground handling staff, and airline personnel for efficient airport operations
