About this role

Forward Air is seeking capable and career-oriented individuals to work in our fast-paced shipping and dock operation. As a Cargo Handler, you will be responsible for loading and unloading freight on our trailers in a safe and timely manner, with frequent lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying required.

Your day-to-day involves loading and unloading 53-foot commercial trailers using handheld scanners to track and maneuver freight through our distribution network. You will also accurately label boxes, prepare freight for shipment, and utilize equipment such as hand trucks, pallet jacks, and forklifts to safely complete tasks.

This role thrives in a fast-paced environment where strong teamwork and flexibility are essential, including working weekends and overtime as needed. All necessary training and materials are provided to help you succeed and obtain forklift certification.

This position offers a stable part-time evening schedule from 8pm to 2am, Sunday through Tuesday, ideal for those seeking consistent work in ground-side operations. Forward Air is an Equal Opportunity employer.

Requirements

  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to ninety (90) pounds
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Strong team player that thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be flexible to work weekends and overtime as needed
  • Forklift and general freight handling knowledge is a plus
  • Must be 18 or older

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the loading and unloading of 53-foot commercial trailers
  • Use handheld scanners to efficiently track and maneuver freight through our distribution network
  • Accurately label boxes and prepare freight for shipment
  • Safely load and unload trailers by utilizing equipment such as hand trucks, pallet jacks, and forklifts
  • Obtain certification and safely operate forklift and other machinery as required
  • Verify documentation and condition of freight to assure quality standards are achieved
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to fifty pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to ninety pounds
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment
