About this role
This Heavy Equipment Technician position focuses on performing repairs and preventive maintenance on heavy equipment, compact heavy equipment, light service equipment, and light trucks. Typical repairs include hydraulic, fuel, exhaust, brakes, suspension, electrical, HVAC, and emission systems.
Day-to-day responsibilities involve diagnosing mechanical problems using advanced knowledge, reading equipment condition reports, and communicating with supervisors and operators to clarify defects. Technicians also complete daily consumables reports, collect oil sampling analyses, and input data into the fleet management software.
Safety is paramount, with strict adherence to all policies and procedures. The role requires working with diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, drivelines, and undercarriages to maximize safe and productive operations, while also performing overhauls on gas or diesel engines.

Requirements
- Advanced knowledge in air brakes, tires, hydraulics, advanced electrical, drive train, suspension, steering, and wheel-end components as evidenced by ASE certification.
- At least 1 year of experience as a technician working on heavy equipment.
- Certificate in electrical diagnostics.
- Applicable ASE certifications.
- Working knowledge of Tier 4 emission systems.
- Welding and/or fabrication skills and/or experience.
- Knowledge and application of OSHA Haz Com, Lock Out Tag Out, and Fire Protection regulations.
Responsibilities
- Maintain advanced knowledge to diagnose and repair mechanical problems on heavy equipment.
- Perform repair or preventive maintenance on electrical, diesel, and gasoline vehicles including compactors, excavators, and wheel loaders.
- Read and interpret equipment condition reports and repair orders, communicating with supervisors and operators for clarification.
- Complete paperwork associated with repairing equipment, documenting parts usage and accounting for applied times.
- Complete daily consumables reports to record hours, fuel, and oil usage for input into the fleet management system.
- Collect and interpret analyses from oil sampling, on-board computers, and fleet management software.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures.
- Perform overhauls on gas or diesel engines.
