About this role

The Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) Airport Operations Center (AOC) promotes situational awareness and facilitates collaborative decision-making among airport stakeholders, agencies, and jurisdictions. Airport Operations Center Coordinators perform skilled work in telecommunications, customer service, dispatching emergency and aviation units, and relaying information. They ensure all responses comply with federal, state, and local regulations while operating communications equipment professionally.

Coordinators monitor and respond to systems like CAD, video management, access control, flight tracking, weather, and emergency notifications. They receive, prioritize, and process calls from phones and radios, dispatching resources and maintaining logs. Situations are assessed quickly with independent judgment during emergencies and irregular operations.

Coordination occurs with airlines, tenants, FAA Air Traffic Control Tower, and stakeholders for gate assignments, NOTAMs, and inquiries. Vehicle and pedestrian escorts, snow duties, and operational support maintain safety. The role supports the City of Charlotte's Aviation Department in a diverse, inclusive environment focused on quality services.

AOC Coordinators handle all training for the center and programs, including cross-training and emergency exercises. They interpret regulations, Airport Certification Manual, and Safety Management System requirements. This position offers involvement in collaborative problem-solving and stakeholder decision-making at a major U.S. airport.

Requirements

  • Ability to assess situations quickly and objectively while determining the proper course of action within established rules, regulations, and procedures
  • Skill in operating and monitoring communications equipment such as radios, telephones, visual data terminals, computers, and building systems
  • Experience performing telecommunications, customer service, and dispatching emergency and aviation units
  • Knowledge of airport operations, including 9-1-1 emergency response, facility maintenance, housekeeping, and customer service
  • Proficiency in relaying emergency and non-emergency information while representing CLT professionally
  • Capability to provide training related to the Airport Operations Center and its associated programs
  • Familiarity with federal, state, local regulations, Airport Certification Manual, and Safety Management System

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, operate, and respond to multiple airport systems, including CAD, video management, access control, safety systems, flight tracking, weather monitoring, paging, and emergency notification systems
  • Receive, prioritize, and process emergency and non-emergency calls from phones, radios, and communication platforms; dispatch resources and maintain logs and records
  • Assess situations quickly and objectively; follow established procedures and exercise independent judgment during emergencies, incidents, and irregular operations (IROPS)
  • Assist in coordination with airlines, tenants, the FAA Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT), and other airport stakeholders
  • Issue NOTAMs, manage gate assignments, and process lost & found, facility work orders, and customer service inquiries as needed
  • Provide vehicle and pedestrian escorts, snow duties, and other operational support to maintain safety and continuity of operations
  • Conduct training for AOC personnel, cross-training programs, and participate in emergency response exercises and departmental events
  • Interpret and comply with Federal, State, and Local regulations, Airport Certification Manual (ACM), and Safety Management System (SMS) requirements
