About this role

Under general supervision, the Airfield Maintenance Technician II assists, supports, and performs skilled labor in maintaining the airport to meet Federal Aviation Administration requirements under 14 CFR Part 139 for operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with Transportation Security Administration rules for airfield security, City codified ordinances, general airport rules, and environmental regulations. Heavy emphasis is placed on responding to issues and maintaining operational functionality.

Performs both semi-skilled and skilled labor in the Aircraft Operations Area of City of Dallas owned and operated airports. Duties include pavement repair and markings, security fencing, airfield grass and weed control, snow and ice removal, and other grounds maintenance on airport property. Conducts daily safety, security, and operational inspections of equipment, runways, taxiways, perimeter fences, and gates.

Establishes, measures, and aligns airfield markings using walk-behind and motorized painting machinery; applies reflective materials to painted markings. Operates tractors, riding mowers, or weed cutting tools and applies weed control products with chemical broadcast systems. Assesses damage to concrete or asphalt and performs repairs with appropriate equipment and personal protective gear.

Operates runway brooms, deicing spray applicators, sand spreading trucks, loaders, and conveyor systems to keep runways and taxiways open. Responds to aircraft emergencies, facility equipment failures, airfield lighting issues, pavement failures, hazardous incidents, and related situations. Requirements

  • Knowledge of FAA regulations under 14 CFR Part 139 for airport operations and maintenance
  • Knowledge of TSA rules for airfield security
  • Ability to perform semi-skilled and skilled labor in Aircraft Operations Area
  • Skill in operating painting machinery, tractors, riding mowers, weed cutting tools, and chemical broadcast systems
  • Experience with pavement repair, airfield markings, and applying reflective materials
  • Proficiency in snow and ice removal using deicing equipment, runway brooms, and sand spreaders
  • Ability to assess and repair concrete and asphalt damage in compliance with regulations
  • Capacity to conduct daily inspections of runways, taxiways, fences, gates, and equipment
