The Security Screener provides security screening to prevent weapons, explosives, and other dangerous items from entering the air transportation system using hand-held metal detectors and physical inspections.

Day-to-day duties include conducting physical searches, operating screening equipment, and taking proper action upon detection of questionable or dangerous items. Screeners must monitor for contraband and coordinate with Law Enforcement Officers as needed.

Screeners work closely with fellow employees, supervisors, and law enforcement to maintain a secure environment. They actively participate in the Safety Management System and communicate safety hazards and equipment problems to managers.

Requirements

Must be familiar with all Government, Airport, Client, and Company regulations related to aviation security.
Ability to conduct physical searches and operate screening equipment effectively.
Must be able to communicate courteously and effectively with fellow employees and law enforcement.
Capable of handling dangerous or deadly weapons/objects safely and calmly.
Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
Must pass a background check and obtain necessary security clearance.

Responsibilities

Conduct physical searches and take proper action upon detection of questionable or dangerous items.
Operate screening equipment such as hand-held metal detectors to prevent weapons and explosives from entering the air transportation system.
Notify Law Enforcement Officer immediately when necessary and maintain control of items until arrival.
Report all Government tests, real weapons, injuries, and other major incidents to supervisor immediately.
Actively participate in the Safety Management System (SMS) and communicate safety hazards and equipment problems to managers.
Ensure safe handling of dangerous or deadly weapons/objects discovered until arrival of the Law Enforcement Officer.
Utilize appropriate communications channels and maintain records, reports, and files as required.
