The Airfield Maintenance Technician I performs technical work associated with the safety, daily operations, maintenance, and security of the municipal airport. Under general supervision, this role handles day-to-day duties with heavy emphasis on responding to issues as they arise. It ensures operational functionality across City of Dallas owned and operated airports.
Daily tasks include performing safety, security, and operational inspections of runways, taxiways, perimeter fences, and gates for compliance with FAA, TSA, and local regulations. Technicians conduct pavement repairs, airfield markings, grass and weed control, and snow and ice removal in the Aircraft Operations Area. They operate equipment like tractors, mowers, painting machinery, and deicing applicators.
Work involves semi-skilled and skilled labor on airport property, including security fencing maintenance and applying weed control products with chemical broadcast systems. Technicians respond to aircraft emergencies, lighting failures, pavement issues, and hazardous incidents. They maintain work records, repair logs, and vehicle inspections.

Requirements
- Ability to perform semi-skilled and skilled labor in airfield maintenance
- Knowledge of FAA regulations, TSA security rules, and airport safety standards
- Skill in operating heavy equipment including tractors, mowers, painting machines, and deicing applicators
- Experience with pavement repair, markings, fencing, and grounds maintenance
- Capability to conduct inspections and respond to airfield emergencies
- Familiarity with weed control chemicals and broadcast systems
- Physical ability to use tools and equipment in outdoor airport environments
- Proficiency in maintaining logs and records for maintenance and inspections
Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining airport compliance with FAA regulations, TSA rules, City ordinances, and environmental regulations
- Perform semi-skilled and skilled labor in the Aircraft Operations Area including pavement repair, markings, security fencing, grass and weed control, and snow/ice removal
- Conduct daily safety, security, and operational inspections of runways, taxiways, perimeter fences, and gates
- Establish, measure, and align airfield markings and operate painting machinery while applying reflective materials
- Operate tractors, riding mowers, and weed cutting tools and apply weed control products using chemical broadcast systems
- Perform repairs to concrete or asphalt using appropriate equipment and personal protective gear
- Operate runway brooms, deicing applicators, sand spreaders, loaders, and conveyor systems to keep runways open
- Respond to aircraft emergencies, equipment failures, lighting issues, pavement failures, and hazardous incidents
