About this role

As a Full-Time Inbound Freight Handler, you will load and unload freight onto and off of equipment, and assist in the recouping of damaged freight. This role is essential to ensuring efficient freight flow within the San Antonio service center.

Prepare, sweep, inspect, and clean trailers before loading freight. Use safe lifting techniques and select proper freight handling equipment such as forklifts, hand trucks, drum trucks, pallet jacks, and rollers. Weigh and dimension shipments to ensure proper classification and safe handling, and plan cube utilization and weight distribution.

Work third shift in a fast-paced dock environment alongside other freight handlers and forklift operators. The role requires attention to detail when checking freight bills, manifests, and hazardous material documentation.

Southeastern Freight Lines offers stable full-time employment with competitive pay ranging from $29.70 to $34.50 per hour. Successful candidates have opportunities to develop their skills in freight handling and logistics.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to satisfactorily pass a background check and an alcohol and drug test.
  • Prior experience as a Forklift Operator, Dock or Warehouse Worker, or Material Handler preferred.
  • Forklift Certification preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret freight bills, manifests, and shipping labels.
  • Capability to work third shift and stand for extended periods.
  • Thoroughness in inspecting freight condition and documenting discrepancies.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload freight onto and off of equipment, and assist in recouping damaged freight.
  • Prepare, sweep, inspect, and clean trailers before loading freight.
  • Use safe lifting techniques and select proper freight handling equipment (forklifts, hand trucks, drum trucks, pallet jacks, rollers) to load and unload freight.
  • Weigh and dimension shipments to ensure proper classification, freight rating, and safe handling.
  • Plan cube utilization and proper weight distribution when loading freight.
  • Count and inspect condition of freight, documenting any shortages or damage.
  • Check manifests for exceptions, labels, destination codes, and special instructions; verify hazardous material documentation and placarding.
  • Properly block and brace freight to prevent shifting during transport.
