About this role

Salt Lake City Department of Airports seeks a dedicated supervisor to lead day-to-day airfield maintenance operations. Oversees skilled crews maintaining runways, roads, and airport grounds safely and efficiently. Ensures operational readiness year-round in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment.

Assigns day-to-day work schedules based on work requests, routine maintenance, or emergencies as directed by Senior Supervisor. Directly supervises maintenance work to ensure timely completion and provides technical assistance. Inspects work in progress and coordinates activities between crews at different sites.

Provides hands-on leadership, training, and orientation in procedures and specialized equipment use. Works with employees, tenants, staff, public, and contractors to achieve maintenance goals. Manages routine reports, time records, and daily logs using computers for monitoring and record-keeping.

Assists Senior Supervisor with performance reviews, solves problems, and recommends personnel actions. Operates light and heavy equipment as trainer or in duties. Leads snow and ice removal operations, supervising operators and ensuring equipment readiness.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of airfield, roads, and grounds maintenance work environment
  • In-depth understanding of the airport environment
  • Experience supervising airfield maintenance employees
  • Ability to provide training and orientation in procedures and specialized equipment
  • Proficiency in operating light and heavy equipment
  • Skills in performance management, including reviews and disciplinary actions
  • Knowledge of snow and ice removal operations in airfield settings
  • Familiarity with record-keeping, timekeeping, and report generation using computers

Responsibilities

  • Assign day-to-day work schedules of employees in assigned crew based on work requests, routine maintenance, or emergencies
  • Directly supervise all maintenance work in assigned area to ensure completion within necessary time frames
  • Provide technical assistance, inspect work in progress, and coordinate activities between crews
  • Maintain routine reports, time records, labor distribution, and daily logs for project status and personnel
  • Assist in conducting performance reviews, solve performance problems, and recommend personnel actions
  • Operate light and heavy equipment as trainer or in performance of duties
  • Work with employees, tenants, staff, public, and contractors to accomplish maintenance goals
  • Assist with and manage snow and ice removal operations, supervise operators, and monitor equipment
