About this role

The Salt Lake City Department of Airport seeks an energetic and dedicated Airfield Maintenance Specialist III (may underfill as I or II) to join our dynamic team. This pivotal role ensures day-to-day safe, secure, and efficient airport operations. Maintain landing strips, airfield facilities, perimeters, and operate trucks with heavy equipment.

Perform a wide range of tasks for smooth airfield operation, including preventative maintenance inspections, cleaning, and lubrication of construction and snow removal equipment. Respond swiftly and effectively to airport emergencies. Operate, maintain, and prepare trucks and heavy equipment to keep them ready for action.

Work in a variety of maintenance areas like aircraft movement environment, asphalt pavement repair, concrete construction, and fencing installation per FAA guidelines. Handle landscaping duties with computerized irrigation systems, mowing, weeding, planting, pruning, and restricted use pesticide application. Join the team required to work non-traditional hours and shift work.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform skilled level work in airfield maintenance areas per FAA guidelines
  • Proficiency operating specialized heavy equipment including loaders, backhoes, graders, and airfield tractors
  • Knowledge of snow and ice removal operations along with Airfield Operations per FAA winter safety guidelines
  • Skill in pavement marking, rubber and paint removal using high-pressure equipment
  • Capability to handle landscaping duties including computerized irrigation and restricted pesticide application
  • Required to work non-traditional hours and shift work
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections, cleaning, and lubrication of construction and snow removal equipment
  • Respond swiftly and effectively to airport emergencies
  • Operate, maintain, and prepare trucks and heavy equipment
  • Perform skilled work in maintenance areas including aircraft movement environment, asphalt pavement repair, concrete construction and repair, and fencing per FAA guidelines
  • Conduct landscaping and grounds-keeping duties including computerized irrigation systems, mowing, weeding, planting, pruning, spraying, and restricted use pesticide application
  • Operate specialized heavy equipment such as asphalt pavers, rollers, loaders, graders, skid-steers, backhoes, trenchers, track-hoes, airfield tractors, sweepers, and cranes
  • Operate computerized pavement marking equipment, pavement marking trucks, shot blasters, grinders, sandblasters, and hand stripers
  • Perform snow and ice removal operations per FAA guidelines using runway snowplows, brooms, and snow blowers
