About this role

As an Inbound Freight Handler, you will load and unload freight onto and off of equipment, as well as assist in the recouping of damaged freight. This role involves preparing trailers and ensuring safe handling practices within a fast-paced warehouse environment.

Day-to-day tasks include sweeping, inspecting, and cleaning trailers before loading. Use safe lifting techniques and select appropriate equipment such as forklifts, hand trucks, pallet jacks, and rollers to move and arrange freight. Proper weight distribution and cube utilization are essential when loading freight.

You will weigh and dimension shipments to ensure proper classification and safe handling. Count and inspect freight condition, documenting any shortages or damage. Review freight bills for special instructions and check manifests for existing exceptions. Verify hazardous material descriptions and placarding when loading hazardous freight.

Work is performed during the third shift. Properly block and brace freight to prevent shifting during transport. This role requires attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols at all times.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Ability to satisfactorily pass a background check and an alcohol and drug test
  • Prior experience as a Forklift Operator, Dock or Warehouse Worker, or Material Handler preferred
  • Forklift Certification preferred
  • Ability to work the third shift schedule
  • Physical stamina to handle repetitive lifting and moving of freight throughout the shift

Responsibilities

  • Weigh and dimension shipments to ensure proper classification, freight rating, and safe handling
  • Plan cube utilization and proper weight distribution when loading freight
  • Verify hazardous material product description, check discrepancies in paperwork, and verify proper placarding when loading hazardous material

  • Hourly pay range of $29.70 to $34.50 per hour
