About this role

The Airport Operations Center (AOC) at Charlotte Douglas International Airport promotes situational awareness and facilitates collaborative decision-making among all airport stakeholders. Coordinators perform skilled work including telecommunications, dispatching emergency and aviation units, and relaying emergency and non-emergency information, representing CLT in a professional and positive manner.

Coordinators monitor, operate, and respond to multiple airport systems including CAD, video management, access control, safety systems, flight tracking, and weather monitoring. They receive, prioritize, and process emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatch resources, and maintain logs and records, requiring quick assessment and objective decision-making within established procedures.

They assist in coordination with airlines, tenants, the FAA Air Traffic Control Tower, and other airport stakeholders. Duties include issuing NOTAMs, managing gate assignments, processing lost and found, facility work orders, and customer service inquiries, as well as providing vehicle and pedestrian escorts, snow duties, and operational support.

AOC Coordinators conduct training for AOC personnel and cross-training programs, and participate in emergency response exercises and departmental events. They interpret and comply with Federal, State, and Local regulations, the Airport Certification Manual, and Safety Management System requirements, ensuring continuity of operations and offering growth through operational leadership.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Ability to obtain and maintain airport security clearance and SIDA badge
  • Experience in telecommunications, dispatching, or airport operations
  • Proficiency with computer systems and airport operations software
  • Strong situational awareness and decision-making under pressure
  • Ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and airport safety protocols
  • Professional demeanor and ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, operate, and respond to multiple airport systems including CAD, video management, access control, safety systems, flight tracking, weather monitoring, paging, and emergency notification systems.
  • Receive, prioritize, and process emergency and non-emergency calls from phones, radios, and communication platforms; dispatch resources and maintain logs and records.
  • Assess situations quickly and objectively; follow established procedures and exercise independent judgment during emergencies, incidents, and irregular operations (IROPS).
  • Assist in coordination with airlines, tenants, the FAA Air Traffic Control Tower, and other airport stakeholders.
  • Issue NOTAMs, manage gate assignments, and process lost & found, facility work orders, and customer service inquiries as needed.
  • Provide vehicle and pedestrian escorts, snow duties, and other operational support to maintain safety and continuity of operations.
  • Conduct training for AOC personnel, cross-training programs, and participate in emergency response exercises and departmental events.
  • Interpret and comply with Federal, State, and Local regulations, Airport Certification Manual (ACM), and Safety Management System (SMS) requirements.
